The SUBWAY chain, is one of the fastest growing retailers in the UK and Ireland, and its success is down to the increasing popularity of the submarine sandwich as a fresh food offering. It has demonstrated a rapid rate of expansion as the chain just about exceeds 1000 stores in the UK and Ireland.

The SUBWAY chain has opened its first HALAL UK and Ireland SUBWAY store in Walthamstow, East London. The store re-opened its door on the 27th June 2007, and is the first of what could be up to 200 Halaal SUBWAY stores across the UK and Ireland.

SUBWAY Operations Director Mark Bradley says on the UK SUBWAY Web-site:
The introduction of Halaal meats shows a true commitment by the SUBWAY chain to offering our customers choice. We have worked diligently with our suppliers to introduce a full range of certified Halal meats. We can now offer our Muslim customers our full range of Subs that are fresh, made-to-order and just the way our customers like them.

As Muslims of Cardiff, we feel deprived and far-removed from the service SUBWAY has to offer its local community. Cardiff is one of the oldest cities in the United Kingdom to be inhabited by Muslims, with the first Mosque in the UK built at Cardiff Bay. The current census places the Muslim population of Cardiff to over 10,000 this number only drastically increasing during university term-time due to international students studying at Cardiff.

Two SUBWAY stores (one on Crwys Road, and one on City Road) are ideal locations amidst an area densely populated by Muslims. This market is largely untapped, and will certainly add to the staggering 5 Billion + turnover worldwide SUBWAY already has

We heartily propose that SUBWAY serves Halaal meat (that which is in concordance with the regulations of the Shariah) in at least ONE of the Cardiff branches mentioned above.
