Anti-Caning in Singapore |
To: The People of SingaporeI recently wrote an article on spanking kids - if it was right or wrong. To gather some opinions, I posted it on Twitter, and was rather surprised that most were pro-spanking.
Thinking that was an anomaly, I decided to ask the same question on a variety of other forums, and some of the responses I got really horrified me. Turns out that there are a number of parents here in Singapore who feel that it is okay to not just spank, smack their child, but to also CANE with a stick, rotan or even belt.
To read some of the responses, visit http://sg.theasianparent.com/articles/beat_your_kids_singapore_spanking
If you are against caning of kids then please sign this petition and forward it to all your friends. If caning kids is not abuse, then really, what is?
Btw, even "The Juvenile Court ... has no power to order corporal punishment" (Helena H.M. Chan, The Legal System of Singapore, Butterworths Asia, 1995).
PS: This is not an anti-spanking/smacking petition. It is just an anti-caning petition.Sincerely,
