I am a resident of the State of New York and support Senate Bill S1021 and Assembly Bill A1386 sponsored by Senator Maltese, Senator Marchi, and Member of Assembly Abbate, respectively. This Bill will change the CPL and grant Police Officer status to Triborough Bridge & Tunnel Authority (TBTA]Officers.
The Sergeants and Officers of the TBTA are in a unique position on the bridges and tunnels of our city. They are in constant contact with the motoring public. Actions taken by TBTA Sergeants and Officers have resulted in the apprehension of criminals on the FBI most wanted list. TBTA officers have had recognition from Mothers Against Drunk Drivers [MADD] for the high
arrest rate of drunk drivers. TBTA Officers are the first response unit on nine crossings and sustain ongoing checkpoints. They are a highly dedicated group of men and women who continue to give this city their best. They are the gatekeepers of our communities.
As Peace Officers, their powers to act are curtailed regularly. The tragedy of September 11, 2001 temporarily circumvented restrictions placed on these Officers with commendable results. Now we insist on legislation.
Through this petition we strongly urge the Senate and Assembly to approve this bill and adopt it as New York State Law
