TOMMY’S LAW





The following is a petition to make/amend a specified law concerning “Hit and Run” or “Hit and Skip” offenders.





Currently the law is written so that the offense is charged as a 3rd degree felony, with the circumstances that the person does not immediately report the accident and fled from the scene.





TOMMYS LAW would hold the person(s) involved in the accident accountable for a longer punishment that the maximum 5 years that they could currently face. Our goal is to make the person(s) accountable for the crime, the same, as it would be held for someone who caused another death and or injury whether by neglegance or otherwise. If you leave the scene of an accident, you did not care what injuries the person sustained from it, therefore, you did not care if they lived or died and did not offer help to that person(s). This should hold the person responsible the same as if they had intended to commit the crime or accident. Driving is a privilege, not a right. Rules and laws come with the privilege of driving and must be obeyed,





This petition for TOMMY’S LAW is intended to make a law that deals only with the “Hit and Run” or “Hit and Skip” and not to be combined with other traffic offenses or charges that may or may not come from the same case.
