The Energy, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Amar Leo Moggie announced that the new tariff rebalancing schemes will come into place on March 1 2002.

Considering a 33\% increase in local call charges and 25\% increase in monthly line rental, this is considered to be a substantial increase.

Many countries do not charge for local calls, and yet we are experiencing an increase in local calls. After the tariff rebalancing schemes, a 10 minute call from KL to Penang costs RM 10.40 before tax, now cost RM 9.00 before tax. This is still considered to be very expensive for most people.

Many other countries has much cheaper local national call charges, some country, eg: United Kingdom offers free national call at slightly higher monthly line rental.

Considering Telekom making RM 1.5 billion from our pocket, how much more do you wish to pay for your telephone bill?

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
