It's my life, and it's my turn to T.E.L.L |
To: Stephen Harper, Canadian P.MAsk a group of children in any school in Canada how many of them have been bullied.
A majority, close to 80%, will put their hands up.
When asked how many of them told, you will notice a steady decline in hands.
The reason? Most will tell you, they were too scared.
I don't feel I need to bore you with bullying statistics.
Turn on your news channel, I'm sure you will see the many results of bullying cases left unhandled. Suicide, murder, random school shootings, depression, etc... to name a few.
With your help, I hope to establish an annonymous anti-bullying hotline and website, dedicated to providing our children with a means of telling, without being the one to take the fall as the "rat." Far too often, children are victimized even more so for telling on their aggressors, or their friends aggressors.
So, the hotline would work like this:
Children call or post a message to the administrator of the site, stating the victim, and bully's first and last names, the school they attend, and their principals name.
They would never have to give out any information that would allow for them to be identified.
The administrator, or person recieving the phone calls, would then forward this information on to the principal of the school, so he may take action.
The administrator of the site is to ensure the case is followed up on, by communicating with the principal a week or so later, and seeing what methods the school took in order to prevent it from happening again.
This would give us information to further our fight with bullies, taking note of what methods work, and which don't.
If a certain aggressors name comes up more than once, this would also be documented and sent along to the school.
As well, the administrator of the website or telephone service, after receiving the same complaint of the same person more than three times, would send a letter to the parents of the bully, (via the school) delivering it by mail with our paid postage, to let them know that it has now become a serious issue that will no longer be tolerated.
Police action, with the okay of the school would/could be initiated.
T.E.L.L would stand for Teaching Everyone Life's Lessons.
I hope to have an easy to remember number (i.e, 1-800-you-tell)and website(www.you-tell.com) or something along those lines.
Please, join us in our fight against bullies, and for our freedom to T.E.L.L annonymously. Every signature counts!Sincerely,
