We, the students, alumni, faculty, and staff of the University of Central Arkansas, petition the new president of 2009 to sign the President's Climate Commitment. Signing this commitment will display the University's concern for global warming and exert leadership on UCA campus and throughout the nation by modeling ways to minimize global warming emissions and integrating sustainability into the curriculum. The steps toward climate neutrality outlined in the President's Climate Commitment include initiating the development of a comprehensive plan to achieve climate neutrality as soon as possible; initiating two or more of the given tangible actions actions to reduce greenhouse gases while the more comprehensive plan is being developed; making the action plan, inventory, and periodic progress reports publicly available by providing them to the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) for posting and dissemination. By taking these steps, the university will stabilize and reduce their long-term energy costs, attract excellent students and faculty, attract new sources of funding, and increase the support of alumni and local communities.
