Immediate reinstatement of Native American Courses |
To: Provost Office of Equity and DiversityThe success of this country has always been inextricably intertwined with the input of minority groups that have all contributed an abundant amount of labor and perseverance that should never be overlooked or forgotten by those that succeed them. As a diverse and erudite institution, we, the members of the University of Maryland, College Park, have an indispensable responsibility to carry on the knowledge and memory of said people. We believe that the Native American culture and history are one of those crucial elements in the framework and creation of this nation, thus incorporating it into academia is of chief importance. The neglect and/or dismissal of such courses, is in direct disregard for the origins and history that will lead to an even brighter future. Collectively we move for the following:
1. The immediate reinstatement of all Native American courses at the University of Maryland,
2. The induction of a Native American studies minor to be investigated,
3. That University of Maryland, College Park create programs that focus to increase Native American college enrollment and mentoring programs that aim to increase in Native American graduation percentages,
4. And global encouragement of classes focusing on intercultural relations.
Sincerely,
