We, the undersigned, believe the recently initiated ban on signs at all University of Virginia sporting events, implemented by the University of Virginia's Athletic Department, is unfair, unjust, and in contrast to our First Amendment right of free speech. It also fails to bring about a more "positive gameday environment," contrary to the Athletic Department's intentions. Our founder Thomas Jefferson, an early advocate of free speech, would be distraught at the Athletic Departments current infringement on our rights as American citizens. We believe the sign ban should be lifted immediately.
