Virgin Media is set to introduce Bittorrent throttling technology next year. This means that anyone wanting to use Bittorrent or similar services will no longer be able to (or with a severely degraded service).

This goes against not only net neutrality but, from a customers view, any fairness considering they advertise the service as "unlimited".

Virgin Medias CEO Neil Berkett has stated to The Register that the above is planned for mid 2009, meaning it is not too late to avoid this insane decision!

It is an absolute disgrace that Virgin, often regarded as the best provider of high speed internet required by paying customers for bittorrent etc, should turn its back on all its top service customers...does Berkett really think people will sign up for a 51 50MB service that is restricted??

I suggest that Virgin Media abandons this course of action and stands behind the principles that have made VM popular in the beginning (prior to Berketts appointment to the role!). Failure to do so WILL see XL/XXL customers leave like rats off a sinking ship!

Please Virgin, do not destroy an application that is leading the way in online distribution of data.
