PETITION FOR A FREE AND FAIR DEMOCRACY IN
FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN PRIMARIES

In this year's presidential election we have the historic opportunity to bring more people than ever before into the democratic process, but we must act to ensure that every vote counts. A struggle between appointed party leaders and local politicians in Michigan and Florida has lead to the current situation: disenfranchisement of millions of voters in Florida and Michigan in a nationwide presidential campaign.

We call upon the Democratic Party to allow all Democrats and eligible citizens in the United States, including voters in Florida and Michigan, to be a part of the democratic process of choosing the presidential nominee that bests represents the interest of the people.

If voters in Michigan and Florida are allowed to vote, the outcome of the nominating process may be entirely different than if they are denied their right to vote. We fear that denying citizens the right to vote and allowing superdelegates to make the decision will jeopardize the perceived mandate of any Democratic nominee in the general election.

We call upon the Democratic Party to renew its commitment to People, not Politics and to allow the people of Michigan and Florida to be heard. Every eligible voter should be counted.
