Help Wisconsinites Keep Tabs on
Registered Sex Offenders:
Tell Wisconsin Governor Doyle YES to AB 591!
According to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel(September 2003), Wisconsin releases the largest number of sex offenders of any state in the country. Yet, when it comes to keeping track of their whereabouts, Wisconsin trails most of the nation in requiring registered sex offenders to wear global positioning system (GPS) devices.
Active GPS devices enable law enforcement to know where these individuals are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. More importantly, the devices alert both the sex offender and law enforcement when the offender has entered an “exclusion zone,” such as a school or playground. When that happens, law enforcement is able to communicate with the offender to tell him or her to move along or risk being apprehended. Over 40 states require registered sex offenders to wear either active or passive GPS devices. Wisconsin law does not.
AB 591 will make active GPS a reality in Wisconsin. Citizens For A Safe Wisconsin, Inc., a grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for tougher sex offender laws needs your help. Whether you live in Wisconsin or not, by ensuring that registered sex offenders can’t move stealthily throughout the state or the country, you will be helping protect all of our families.
Please tell Governor Doyle Wisconsin needs active GPS NOW!Sincerely,
