No more missing white women! |
To: News StationsElizabeth Smart. Laci Peterson. The runaway bride. Someone missing in Aruba.
It is time to demand more from the news. It is time that the news focuses more on the government and the world, and less on ratings grabbers.
We have had enough of the missing random white women.
These stories are not worthy of national prominence, but they are considered breaking news all day on CNN. MSNBC.com leads with continual non-developments rather than focusing on actual stories out of Iraq and Washington. Minorities and men go missing every day, but we don't hear about them. Why? Because these are local stories, stories which only get national play when it's a reasonably attractive white woman.
We pledge that we will no longer follow these stories on any outlet pretending to be news. We will not click on any stories about missing random white women. When CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, or our local news channels report cover these stories, we will change the channel.
There's a whole world of news out there. We will honor this pledge until someone starts to focus on it.Sincerely,
