A Request to MTV's Total Request Live: Show Us the Numbers!

To:  CEO of Music Television (MTV) Tom Freston, President of MTV Van Toffler, and The Host of MTV's Total Request Live Carson Daly

We the subscribers and fans of Music Television (MTV) respectfully request a change in Total Request Live's Voting Format. We feel the current voting system is not one chosen by the 76 million subscribers in the United States, rather by a few corporations. We in essence feel we are being told what we should like artistically.

We feel even though you provide subscribers and fans the opportunity to vote in the OTHER category on your website, there is no proof that these musicians ever had a chance to be aired on MTV's TRL. There are no number counts available prior to the show so that fans of various musicians can mobilize and vote. We feel this is unfair, and goes against the democratic principles you claim to promote.

We would like for MTV to post on its website and prior to the show's airing at 3:30pm Eastern Time, the number of votes each song receives. We are not asking that you list millions of songs on your site or on television, but give at least ten additional songs a "Close Call Vote" like was previously done, so that fans can help promote their favorite artists.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We believe that MTV has integrity, and respects the views of its subscribers and fans and look forward to your response to this petition.
