To:  Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Noble Peace Prize Winner, 2006

Dear Dr. Yunus,

For the last few days, we, the Bangladeshis all around the world, are celebrating like we have never done before. It is all because of you and the members of the Grameen family who have brought the Noble peace prize at our door steps. We cried, we laughed and we proclaimed ourselves as proud Bangladeshis. Thank you for giving us the chance of a celebration of a lifetime.

But behind all the celebration, lies a fear -- a fear for instability in our own country. In only a few days, Bangladesh faces the biggest crisis since it regained democracy in 1990 -- a political crisis that threatens to destroy the hard work of people like you all around the country. If the two parties can not agree on election reform proposals within the next few days, our country will be engulfed in violence with all our hard earned prosperity in jeopardy. In a speech in April this year, you described a wonderful vision for the future of our country -- a vision that made us dream of a country with unlimited potential. However, you also outlined that, in order to get there, having a credible election with good candidates is the most important task at hand. Since then, the chance of a credible election has dissipated slowly with the both the political parties feuding over the rules of engagement. Now we stand in a position where there is a direct threat of confrontation and street battle with neither side willing to oblige.

We have to turn things around and we can not let this happen. You have proved yourself as a doer, who can make changes happen in spite of all odds. Although you have given Bangladesh a lot, with your newly earned stature, you now have a historical opportunity to do something more for Bangladesh -- a chance to turn things around at this critical juncture and help us achieve the dreams that you have helped us to see. As someone with unquestionable integrity and organizational capability and as someone who can unify this fractured nation in this troubled time, we, the undersigned, would like to propose your name as the chief advisor of the upcoming caretaker government. We hope that you and the parties will accept this proposal so that we can have a credible election under a strong election commission where all parties take part. In three months, once a successful election is over, you can return to your responsibilities at Grameen working towards eradicating poverty. In so doing, you will save the country from the impending disaster and help us move forward to fulfil our limitless potential.

We hope you will accept this nomination.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
