Zydrunas Ilgauskas is an NBA veteran of 13 seasons and a 2-time NBA All Star. Those days, however, are long behind him. Now a "starting" Center for the Miami Heat, "Big Z" as he is affectionately dubbed, has been a massive detriment towards the Heat's efforts to win the elusive 2011 NBA title. As he starts the 1st and 3rd quarters, rival teams are able to sniff out his rather laughable footspeed and inability to hit his once automatic midrange jumper, and go on massive scoring runs. Only when backup center and Canadian idol Joel Anthony enters the game for him do the Heat recover from the grave mistake of Z's presence. Anthony has posted a /- score of 92, tops in the entire NBA this postseason while Z has been -48, worst on the Heat team. I am not calling for Anthony to usurp Ilgauskas in the starting lineup, because that failed early in the season (see 9-8 start). Joel is best suited towards a bench role where his effort and energy works best. But I am saying that Z deserves nothing but the warmest spot on the bench for his 7'3" frame. He can contribute just fine by handing out Gatorades and swearing in Greek at Kevin Garnett. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has been more than solid this postseason, but his stubbornness regarding the Center position has been both perplexing and detrimental. Z, we love ya, your a damn good guy, but enough is enough. Please, Heat nation (and whatever NBA fan out there that doesn't hate this team and/or values competent basketball), please find it in your heart to sign this petition and aid the Heat in their quest for their 2nd NBA title. Coach Spo, please rectify this mistake!
