Yet another move to rob the Presidency college, Kolkata of it's glory. Abolition of the admission tests shuts the door to a lot of deserving people.

The whole idea of conducting the admission tests was to put love for a subject ahead/in equal footing with HS marks to avoid mark-mongers from getting into the college. You can get zillions of marks in all subjects and still not be a "Presidencian" if you do not love the subject you want to study. This is what has made and still making the Presidencians stand out in the world of academics. It is sad to see your beloved institution die a slow and miserable death in front of your eyes.....it really hurts.

The exam-free process can be an option if it can normalize the parameters like - HS/ISC mark disparity and preference to mark obtained in HS/ISC in the subject applied for, for the admission procedure. Until and unless we can do the same and give equal opportunities to deserving students I do not think this will be a correct procedure. It's very important to retain the tests/ careful judgement for fundamental subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Statistics, History, Philosophy, Literature, and more...

As for the teachers complaining about the burden of correcting the manuscripts, we can have a different format of the exam so that the whole system can be automated.

About not having any entrance exam before 1971 - people in general will agree that there has been a serious change in definition of education between then and now. Education has now mostly turned into a tuition=marks=good student equation. The more your parents afford tuitions the better student you become....it's sickening but it's true.

It's a futile exercise to protest against the government and they WILL do what they have planned to do, but I still feel that the ex and present -Presidencians should stand up and protest before the final nail is hammered in the coffin.

This online petition is one way of forwarding our concern to the college authorities.
