Algoma District School Board Firewall

To:  Algoma District School Board

This petition is intended to be signed by those who disagree with the internet firewall used by Algoma District School Board to prevent students from accessing “inappropriate” web sites on computers from schools within the district. While it is necessary to keep students focussed on their work, the firewall is blocking sites that are crucial to presentations and research. YouTube is an example of a web site that is used by many students to present video assignments and illustrations to go along with oral presentations. The student/teacher email accounts have also been proven useless and usually do not work when emailing attachments from home which is why email services such as Hotmail and Gmail are needed. If you believe that the ADSB firewall is preventing you from efficiently transferring assignments and carrying out presentations and believe it should be removed or reduced, sign this petition. After all, it is the teacher’s job to monitor and controll their student’s work habits. There is no set amount if signatures for the firewall removed but let us show that the student’s opinions really matter.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
