Australian fuel excise reform |
To: The Prime Minister of AustraliaTo: The Honourable John Howard MP, Prime Minister of Australia.
Dear Mr. Howard,
We, the undersigned, feel the Federal Government is ripping off Australian road users by charging an exorbitant Federal Fuel Excise. We believe not only that the Fuel excise is far too high, but also that we should not be taxed twice on our fuel. We believe this is particularly damaging to families at a time when world oil prices are so high and the impact of this on Australians may be lessened by reducing the fuel excise. We, the Australian motorists and voters are campaigning to have the Federal Fuel Excise reduced by at least half.
Using a guide published by the Royal Automotive Club of Victoria in 2002, we can see that 50 litres of fuel purchased at 105 Cents per litre, costs $52.95 – this includes a whopping $23.66 of Federal Taxes. This equals almost 45\% taxes, Mr Howard – wasn’t the aim of the introduction of the GST in Australia to keep all taxes on goods and services at 10\%?
Again Mr. Howard, the undersigned demand an immediate review of the Federal Fuel excise and call for the excise charged by your government to be reduced by at least half.
Sincerely,
