Indian Home Minister Shri.P. Chidambaram and Prime Minister Manmohan SINGH |
To: Indian National Security Council and Indian CBISince Nov 26. 2008, we have felt a lot of pain and witnessed a lot of outrage and grief over the Mumbai terrorist attacks.
But now it’s time to join our hands together and contribute towards a solution to cripple terrorism and eventually defeat terrorism in India. This group highlights certain measures which the Indian government has to consider and implement, to flush out terrorism and help secure our future.
I have been actively debating with my friends, colleagues, and family members over the 26/11 issue and many profound ideas have emerged since then. I have jotted a few of them below and I hope that everyone can share some serious thoughts & reflect some light on this subject.
1) The Government needs to issue a common Indian ID Number (IID) system, similar to that of a US Social Security card where every credit application, Bank/Auto/Mortgage loan would require an ID to conduct a transaction.
2) The IID should be centralized and linked to the Traffic, Banking, NSC and CBI agencies all over India.
3) The IID also be used as a primary key in issuance of Driving License or passports in the near future.
4) Every tourist entering India should be issued a temporary IID number in case they plan to stay over a period of 15 days.
5) Every Candidate applying for a job should be asked for an IID number
5) To issue an IID card, the Indian government would require a Ration card, birth certificate or a passport along with 2 utility bills (electricity, telephone or Gas)
6) The IID should be MANDATED NATIONWIDE WITH NO EXCEPTIONS TO POLITICAL LEADERS OR BOLLYWOOD CELEBS.
Pros:
1) we already have a robust IT infrastructure and Fiber Optic Network in place thus implementation shouldn’t take more than 6 month to a year
2) Holding a population of 1.13 billion citizens approximately, this would generate allot of revenue for the government which can be used to strengthen the security and also contribute towards procurement of state of the art gear to fight terrorism (better bullet proof jackets for starters) .
3) Better and secured future for our kids and our families.
Cons:
1) Some rural sectors of India might find it expensive to afford an ID card.
Sincerely,
