To:  NAACP

2002 was the year that Zimbabwe held its Presidential election. The United States and Britain wanted to be the ones to determine whether the elections were free and clear. The United Nations sanctioned the National Association of Colored People (NAACP) as official monitors of the elections. The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace in Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, the Union of African States and the Southern African Development Community (the regional structure to which all Southern African countries fall under and adhere to) have all stated that the election in Zimbabwe was free and fair. However, the NAACP has not released its report. This is the year 2006. Today, the United States and Britain are blocking Zimbabwe from getting international loans because they say the elections were not free and fair. George Bush stated as much in his 2006 State of the Union Address. Neither of these countries had monitors, let alone observers to view the mechanics of the election. Just as the United States and Britain lied about Sadaam Hussein having weapons of mass destruction to justify their going to war with Iraq, these countries are also lying about the election in Zimbabwe not being free and clear. The NAACP is supporting these lies by not releasing their report. Innocent Zimbabwean men, women and children are suffering from malnutrition and even starvation because the United States and Britain are blocking the Zimbabwean government’s abilities to acquire international loans needed to repair its agricultural infrastructure that was sabotaged by white settlers when they were removed from the land they stole from Zimbabwe’s ancestors. The United States and Britain use their position that the election was not free and fair as the justification to block Zimbabwe from getting international loans. The NAACP is complicit in supporting these lies by not publicly releasing its report on the election. We the undersigned support the release of the NAACP’s report on the Zimbabwe 2002 Presidential Elections.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
