RE: Logging in Algonquin Provincial Park

We, the undersigned, support CPAWS-Ottawa Valley's four objectives for Algonquin Park:

1. The securing of a comprehensive public review of all logging in Algonquin Park (as requested by the Environmental Commissioner);
2. The implementation of the Ontario Parks Board recommendations to reduce the area that is open to logging in Algonquin Park;
3. The establishment of a timeline for the elimination of all logging in Algonquin Park and the removal of associated infrastructure;
4. The designation of the Algonquin interior as a wilderness zone as logging is phased out.

In particular, with respect to the Ontario Parks Board recommendations, we fully endorse:

(a) Removing 708 sq. km from the "managed" forest, which is the forest open to exploitation by logging. This is a reduction of 17\% (p. 8);
(b) Reducing the number and impact of logging roads, and the activities associated with them;
(c) Improving the protection for riparian zones, old growth forest stands and Brook Trout habitat.
