Call for the Australian Government to abide by International Human Rights and Refugee conventions |
To: to Mrs. Mary Robinson, UN High Commissioner for Human RightsThe recent horrific accident that claimed the life of 350 innocent refugees has displayed the Australian Governments blatent disregard for the Universal Declaration for Human Rights adopted and proclaimed by the General Assembly resolution 217 A(III) of 10 December 1948, in particular Article 14 which states:
(1) Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.
In a time of world drama Pakistan and Iran have opened thier borders to more then 2,000,000 refugees and counting, the Australian government refuses to accept boat loads of a mere few hundred refugees - fleeing from the same governments we have condemmed as 'terrorists'.
As a Human I call for the Australian government to abide by International Law and basic human rights and treat the refugees as humans - in line with human rights.
Sincerely,
