We, the undersigned, are Americans who express profound sorrow and shame for all inhumane and unjust acts committed in our name while you were detained at Abu Ghraib. We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights. We as Americans are sorry that our nation has failed to protect your humanity and human rights and we ask your forgiveness. We have let you down and we have let ourselves down.
