Force Apostrophes to Obey the Laws of Gravity

For hundreds of years the evolution of language has caused some unusual additions, such as accented characters. The comma and period are also additions which have ended up in common use. Millions of people use these characters every day thanks to the force of change.

Unfortunately, not every change is for the good of the people. There exists one problematic character which not only commonly abuses the rules of grammar, but abuses the rules of gravity. That character being the apostrophe (').

The semi-colon is kept in the air by pressure from the comma below it, but the apostrophe has no excuse. Not content with simply abusing every plural, contraction, word ending with S, and now even decades, the apostrophe has always been allowed to contradict the laws of gravity. Left unchecked, the apostrophe could gain further ground.

We propose that rules be added to languages which make use of apostrophes, in order to limit the amount of airtime they may receive, perhaps even an outright ban in defying the laws of gravity. The apostrophe character has gone far enough, and it is time to put the hammer down.
