To:  President Obama

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD! PLEASE INVITE AS MANY AS POSSIBLE TO SIGN! MAKE IT A GOAL TO GET AT LEAST 3 OTHERS TO SIGN. LET'S ALL WORK TOGETHER FOR A BETTER WORLD AND FUTURE! THIS PETITION IS SOLELY AGAINST GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION IN THE ARTS AND AGAINST ANY ESTABLISHMENT OF GOVERNMENT REGULATION IN THE FIELD OF THE ARTS.

To: President Barack Obama

Your good friend Quincy Jones said: "...next conversation I have with President Obama is to beg for a Secretary of Arts."
[November 14th 2008 WNYC interview by John Schaefer on "Soundcheck."]

We the undersigned do not support Quincy Jones' plea and do not support government intervention in the fields of art. Government involvement in the arts politicizes artistic creation and often produces not art but propaganda. Government involvement in art also damages the most independent and creative artists, who refuse to compromise their artistic integrity for government handouts. Said artists must face unfair competition from the government's favorites, many of whom are mediocrities who would never make it on their own without funds appropriated from taxpayers. We oppose the shackling of the arts to political machinations and government interests.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
