The London Astoria, the venue that holds G-A-Y and showcases up-and-coming rock bands as well as hosting intimate shows by the larger bands of now could be closing its doors early next year.
Late last week, development company Derwent Valley made a deal with the Mean Fiddler worth almost 24 million and are rumoured to be planning to turn the theatre into a new development of shops, office space and flats. The deal includes the building at 17 Oxford Street, a 3,270-sqaure foot retail area on a 25 year-lease since 1997.
This venue needs to be saved. So many amazing gigs have been held here, and the place holds many memories for gig goers and for the G-A-Y clubbers. There are not many other 2000 capacity venues laying around in London that have the same feel as the Astoria, nor with such a great view or location.
So sign the petition if you want to save a piece of history for most people who have previously attended the venue that it held within so many hearts.
