To whom it may concern,

We as the State of Ohio need to have something changed in our hit and skip law. While the law punches hit and leaving the scene of the accident, its not really sending a message to the young people in this country. In order to send a message out to the young people of this county we need to increase the punishment for this very serious crime. There has been many families in this state who have had a loved one killed or a family member suffering from the incident for the rest of their lives and for the individual who hit them and ran, this just show’s that they don’t care about what happened to the individual who is lying on the ground suffering in pain or dying.

According to the State of Ohio law the individual who commits a hit and skip is only subjected to a maximum of five years in prison. Five years compared to the rest of the family’s life without that loved one, that is just a slap on the wrist.

We would like to propose that the sentencing for Hit and skipping the scene of the crime would be increase to anywhere from 2 to 5 years to 15 to 30 years in prison without the chance of probation. They lost that chance for probation when they decide not to go back to see what or whom they hit.
