Petition To Keep Bill Ayers From Speaking At Georgia Southern University

On March 2, 2009, former United States terrorist William "Bill" Ayers was scheduled to give a lecture to the Georgia Southern University Community. Bill Ayers co-founded the terrorist organization Weather Underground, an organization that gained its fame in the 1960's and 1970s for bombing prominent United States landmarks, including the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon.

Students and faculty were informed on Sunday, February 8, 2009 that Ayers' lecture had been canceled, citing nearly $13,000 in security costs and the closing of several parrking lots, which would interrupt traffic.

Another reason for the cancelation has been blamed on the outrage expressed by some individuals who opposed Ayers coming to Georgia Southern University because he has past ties to a terrorist organization.

This petition is filed on February 13, 2009 in support of maintaining the decisions cast down by the administration of Georgia Southern University. Other organizations, composed of faculty and staff, are trying to get the university to reverse its decision and therefore this petition seeks to ban William Ayers from coming to Georgia Southern University on March 2, 2009 and any/all subsequent futute visits.
