Ban Foie Gras in Chicago

To:  Mayor Richard Daley

I believe that Chicago, IL should once again take legislative measures to ban the sale and use of foie gras. I believe the practice of force-feeding ducks and geese is cruel and inhumane, causing the birds to suffer tremendously--including respiratory distress, the inability to walk and diminished liver function which essentially disperses toxins throughout their bodies. I don't believe it is a suitable food-source or "gourmet delicacy," but rather the result of unnatural, barbaric "farming" measures. I don't believe the great city of Chicago--renown for its culinary scene--should support this disturbing industry. I think Chicago should (once again) join the ranks of California, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and others and take measures to ban this product.
