Bring back Lestat (Bad musical changes)

To:

We, the undersigned want the following changes made to the Lestat

musical.

We know what the original content of the San Francisco version of the

play had been. We are aware of what was done to the New York version of the

musical.

We do not want a version of Lestat who would at first warm our

interests with his refusal to be defeated and with his aversion to death, which

he

views to be a defeat, to then betray his own character by tossing his friend

into a fire. We do not want him to prove his willingness to love him enough

to 'let him go' when this contradicts not only the novels that the play is

based on but also the content of the play itself. We do not require this when

the

song Right before my Eyes is more than enough proof of his affection for

Nicolas. We would rather it be restored that Nicolas had killed himself and

Lestat simply had been unable to stop it and had wanted to stop it.

We do not wish for Lestat to seek Marius only to save Nicolas

because it makes Marius's appearance utterly without purpose. We want Marius

portrayed, as he originally had been, as a father figure for Lestat. We want

his

purpose to be restored in that Lestat originally sought him out to teach him

how to endure the passage of time. It creates a gap in the play's continuity

that Marius is no longer used as a father figure when Lestat's real father had

mistreated him and his maker, Magnus, had thrown himself into a fire.

We want, restored to us, what Sir Elton John originally intended

and wanted in that the play's purpose was about redemption. We do not want a

cheesy, whining to God scene followed by a character, whom we know was meant

to be a father figure, telling the hero that he must stand on broken legs. We

do not feel that this is any sort of improvement upon the finale when pitted

against the San Francisco version of Lestat's From The Dead finale. We want

restored to us Lestat's life lessons and the obtaining of his moral compass.

We want an ending that doesn't fall flat in having Marius appear

cruel and Lestat as a whining child without having learned anything other than

some harsh physiological endurance, masculine, Hemmingway-esque nonsense. We

do not want Rocky, we do not want Hemmingway, we do not want Of Mice and Men.

We want Lestat! We don't want Lestat being forced to walk on broken legs,

whining to God, or Marius acting cold. We want Lestat to gain his moral compass

as he had in the now discarded song From the Dead finale.

We again wish to see Lestat seated in front of his computer

and writing his story.

We don't want to see Lestat quote the first few lines of his

own novel at the very end of the play. It's empty and gives no real closure

other than 'Oh, wow, he lived.'

We want the play's heart restored. We want Lestat's

personality corrected in that he would not put Incolas into the fire, that

Marius would

not force anyone to stand on broken legs, that Lestat would again give us his

earned moral compass.

Without Lestat gaining his moral compass, without the story being

about redemption we have nothing. We want the story's heart restored! The

San Francisco version of the musical had a heart and we want that heart back.

Improving the play does not mean stealing it's soul. All other changes we'd

accept and welcome with open arms but this assisted suicide, the change of

Marius's purpose and intention and the removal of Lestat's moral lessons is

unacceptable. The play is now empty and shallow and we will not stand for it.

Bring back Lestat!

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
