We the undersigned petitioners, your constituents support your efforts to seize this historic opportunity to take a bold stand for policies that will simultaneously bring new economic opportunity to America, improve our national security, and tackle global warming.

We can accomplish these objectives and move our nation toward a powerful new energy economy with your support for a comprehensive policy platform designed to tackle global warming as soon as possible.

-Please help us save money with increased energy efficiency and creating new jobs and industries in America.
-Please make polluters pay for the global warming emissions they put into our sky,
-Please invest in programs to help Virginian families transition to a low-carbon economy.

We are Virginia’s citizens from every walk of life, and we are joining together to speak with one voice out of deep concern for our common future. We ask you to support the comprehensive policy platform from 1Sky that calls for the following:

_ CUT CLIMATE POLLUTION 25\% BELOW 1990 LEVELS BY 2020, in line with the scientific recommendations of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Cutting carbon emissions means improving energy efficiency and saving money that would otherwise be wasted on pricey fossil fuels. Smart climate policy will jumpstart the economy by getting us off of foreign oil and investing in our ailing energy infrastructure.

_ CREATE 5 MILLION GREEN JOBS AND PATHWAYS OUT OF POVERTY in a sweeping national mobilization of the American workforce. Fostering the development of high growth industries in clean energy is an opportunity we can't afford to miss. Green jobs are the beginning of a smarter, more efficient economy that creates green pathways out of poverty for the communities most in need of economic opportunity.

_ END THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW COAL PLANTS that emit global warming pollution and invest in healthy renewable energy instead. Coal is a dirty fuel that costs our healthcare system millions of dollars every year. Renewable energy, energy efficiency and infrastructural improvements are much smarter options for public investments.
