Killing dogs : NOT THE WAY OUT!! |
To: The Commissioner, Bangalore Mahanagara PalikeWe, the undersigned, condemn the cruel killing of street dogs in Bangalore by the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike from 1939 to 1999. The BMP has killed over 25 lakh street dogs and we do NOT want this to happen ever. These inhumane killings have not helped the citizens of Bangalore an inch towards maintaining street dog population and rabies-eradication.
The following humane methods adopted by many other countries and cities in INDIA have proven to be successful:
(1) Animal Birth Control (Spay and Neuter),
(2) Anti-Rabies Vaccine,
(3) (i) Euthanasia (for rabid dogs) or
(ii) Keeping rabid dogs isolated till they die a natural death
(4) Euthanasia (for terminally ill and fatally injured dogs)
and finally
(5) Effective garbage disposal.
We strongly urge you to continue with these humane methods of street dog management currently implemented by organizations like
ARF (Animal Rights Fund),
CUPA (Compassion Unlimited Plus Action),
SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals),
DIYA (Do It Yourself Activists).
Sincerely,
The Killing dogs : NOT THE WAY OUT!!
