Bloor Yonge Square |
To: City of TorontoThe intersection of Bloor and Yonge is at the heart of the largest and most vibrant city in Canada – Toronto. However, over the years it has been left to degrade and is now a symbol of mediocrity. We can do better and now we have the opportunity. Because of the failure of the One Bloor East project, the south-east corner of Bloor and Yonge is now vacant and we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to build something great.
We are asking that the City of Toronto expropriate the land on the south-east corner of Yonge and Bloor to build a public square and park. The advantages of this are numerous including:
- Building a series of great public spaces along the spine of Toronto – Yonge Street.
- Revitalizing the length of Yonge Street between Yonge and Dundas
- Creating a great public space above one of the busiest subway stations in the city.
- A new place to hold public events and an excellent tourist draw for Toronto.
- An enormous benefit to the surrounding businesses and residents, drawing residents and tourists to the neighbourhood like never before.
With the necessary public will and partnerships, the money can be found and the site can be made into a showpiece for Toronto. We ask that the City of Toronto move as quickly as possible to secure the land for public use.
Sincerely,
