Keep the Book and Toy Bus

We were disappointed to learn that the Toy Library service is being brought to an end. This is despite 2008 being the National Year of Reading. The Book and Toy Bus is a service run by Haringey Libraries in partnership with Sure Start making regular monthly visits to children’s centres in the West Green, Chestnuts, Noel Park, Park Lane, High Cross, Seven sisters and Roundway areas. Parents and Carers of children under five can become members and benefit from this free service allowing parents and children to test out toys before buying, or to experience a wide range of books and toys that they may otherwise be unable to access or afford.

The council’s website states that during “the National Year of Reading Haringey will be celebrating and promoting reading…The aim is to encourage reading for people of all ages, providing new opportunities to read and helping people access support through libraries. Over the coming 12 months we will be encouraging everyone to visit the library, share their experiences and celebrate their reading together. And we will be working to build a legacy of reading across the borough.”

The book and toy bus is a valued service. It is a children’s library dedicated to the under 5’s. It will be a huge disappointment to many to see this service brought to an end. We wish to show our support to this service and express our desire to keep the book and toy bus running.
