SUBLIME BOX SET |
To: Skunk Records“When one man, for whatever reason, has the opportunity to lead an extraordinary life, he has no right to keep it to himself.” ~ Jacques-Yves Costeau
WE, the undersigned, as the consumer force which has supported your company since its inception, call upon your record label to release a box set of music recorded by the groundbreaking Long Beach trio of musicians known as “Sublime”. Surely, to us, this seems a very humble request. It is far from any sort of secret that a phalanx of Sublime rarities exists. This has procured even the most inept of music fans, through means of the expansive internet, to come into possession of these tracks either in the form of downloaded files or unofficial album releases, yet unfortunately for a lack of better words these tracks have been of a lackluster quality.
As fans of your record label and music in general, we feel it is an injustice to deny us this compilation of music. With the advancement of musical technology, our beloved music of times past can be remastered, to be fully appreciated in near original quality. Our menial proposal would call for an inclusion of previously unreleased tracks, covers, outtakes, remixes, etc. We have suffered though the corporate mishandling of MCA for as long as can be had, and to our knowledge, with the completion of Sublime’s seven record-release deal, we can now leave it upon your fine record label to plan and mass produce a quality box set release.
The insouciant compilations that MCA released following the death of Brad Nowell are clearly no tribute to him and living, musical counterparts, Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson. “Second-hand Smoke” was the cigarette we smoked after the fame, “Stand By Your Van” was a decent perspective into the LIVE genius of the trio, “Bradley Nowell And Friends” was a teaser at best, and “Greatest Hits” was a Greek tragedy to the authentic disciples. We have suffered through the arduous task of being unable to voice our opinion, now here we stand, with a request.
Let us have our music, let us have our digitally mastered box set, perhaps released in the year 2006, the twentieth anniversary, not only of the band, but of the its following.
By, signing this, we acknowledge the fact that if our request is granted, we shall purchase the “Sublime Box” set for an average, reasonable cost.
Sincerely,
