We respectfully request each of the following:

PERMANENT DIRECTOR
• That an aggressive search and recruitment effort for a permanent director for Louisiana School for the Deaf begin immediately.
• That a “Blue-ribbon Committee” of deaf (51%) and hearing (49%) educators of the deaf, specialists in the field of deaf education, parents of deaf students, and community leaders affiliated with deaf causes be established for the primary purpose of reviewing and interviewing ALL applicants for the position of permanent director of Louisiana School for the Deaf. This committee should have effective input into the advertising and recruitment process. This committee should also be able to make the final selection of the applicant(s) for recommendation to Board of the Elementary and Secondary Education (B.E.S.E.) for their approval.
• That the qualifications for a permanent director of LSD stipulate a background in Deaf Education and a proficiency in sign language. This stipulation should be mandatory.
• That a deadline of May 1, 2009 be set for final selection and recommendation by the Blue-ribbon Committee and a deadline of June 30, 2009 be set for final approval by B.E.S.E. for the position of permanent director of Louisiana School for the Deaf.
