Dubbed 'The Home of British Motorsport', Silverstone Circuit truly lives up to its name, and deservedly. No other circuit in Britian has the facilities, the location or the history of Silverstone.

The recent announcement by the FIA that it would no longer host the Formula One British Grand Prix from 2010, therefore, came as a shock, not because Silverstone was edging closer to securing that deal, but because Donington Park is an unlikely host for a Formula One Grand Prix event, particularly in competition with a world class facility such as Silverstone.

Donington lacks the facilities, track quality and safety of Silverstone, for both spectators and drivers alike. Many involved have expressed concern for these factors, and questioned the quality of the work should Donington rush, which would have to be the case, to get the circuit ready for Formula One in 2010. Other issues, such as parking, accomodation including camping and traffic flow are also cause for concern, factors that are plentiful at Silverstone - a £56 million bypass on the A43 was made in 2002, the relatively rural location provides camping fields and new car parks have recently been built at the Northamptonshire circuit.

Finally, a thought, if you will, for the heritage of Formula One: the first ever World Championship race was held at Silverstone, and the track has hosted a race at least once in every two years since the World Championship began. Silverstone is a symbol of F1 heritage, like Monza in Italy. To lose such a historic and great circuit would be removing a piece of F1 history that didn't need to be taken away. Formula One has suffered great losses in the past, many that couldn't have been helped, but why purposely take away a crucial part of the sport? Does this not show how Formula One is becoming a commercially-orientated sport, a sport that is no longer about the racing, but about the money?

The loss of this world-renowned, historic track would be a loss to the sport.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
