:: Let's get BROOKSIDE on DVD!!! ::
Remember Brookside? Of course you do, there is no way you can forget a show as good as “Brookie”!
Brookside was the ultimate “real” soap. It started in 1982 and ran for an incredible 21 years on channel 4 in the UK. At its height of popularity it was a real ratings winner for the channel, attracting millions of viewers from all parts of the country, not just Liverpool – the city that it was based in.
This soap was different from the rest, it was set in a real close, filmed in real houses and dealt with real issues about characters we could all familiarise with.
At that time Brookside raised the bar and lead the way for its rivals – because it covered stories which other soaps wouldn’t dream of touching. Most famously Mandy Jordache, a woman so sick and tired of being physically abused by her husband she ended up killing him with the help of her daughter – and burying him under a garden patio. This was just one of the brilliant and most memorable storylines that made Brookside what it was – a household name to this day.
There are so many other excellent stories you may remember.... Jimmy Corkhill battling with the drugs! Sheila being raped! The famous helicopter crash! The first lesbian kiss shown on a soap! Yes Brookside was good til’ the end… going out with a bang – in its last ever episode most of the close rallied together to kill Michaelson, a drug dealer that was a nightmare for them all!
There really are loads of great nail-biting storylines that would make for excellent viewing all over again if they were to be made available to buy on DVD!
If you’re a Brookside fan in any way shape or form, then we ask you please to sign our petition. We want it released on DVD as soon as possible. We’re amazed it isn’t already! A show as good as Brookie deserves to be on DVD, the fans that followed the show for its entire run are itching at the chance to see this fantastic show all over again. Initially we want whatever we can get – a “best of” selection of episodes onto DVD, or box sets of the most famous storylines (ideally limited edition) – but it would be awesome if we could see the entire thing released gradually… right from the very first episode.
When we get enough signatures we can send this to Lime Pictures (the company that was Mersey TV, who produced the show) as well as Phil Redmond (the guy who created the show). We have already made contact with various people such as the Liverpool Echo and WhatsOnTV Magazine because were trying our hardest to get this petition as big as it can possibly be… with as many signatures on it as possible in order to show them that there is a demand for it, the fans still love it, and we will never forget the close!!!
Thanks for listenin' - Lee and Dan, just a couple of Brookie fans trying to get it on DVD for everybody to enjoy, fans from past and hopefully fans of new!Sincerely,
