Change Insensitive Bit Torrent Logo |
To: Bram Cohen of BitTorrent.comThe Indian Ocean Earthquake and resulting Tsunami of December 26th, 2004 was one of the worst disasters of modern times, with the death toll currently at about 240,000 worldwide and still rising. Fortunatly, the global community has donated an unprecedented outpouring of funds to help with the massive relief effort.
The world mourns alongside all those who lost loved ones in this horrific tragedy, and our prayers go out to those in need, that they may find solace in the love of Jesus Christ our Lord, regardless of their beliefs whether they be Christian, Muslim, Buddhist or Hindu.
However, there are some here in the US who would choose to ignore the grief of those who are suffering with insensitive images and words. The most blatant example is Bram Cohen, the author of the morally questionable Bit Torrent software, who brazenly displays a Tsunami Logo on his website.
A quick Google search on this software reveals that not only is this Bram Cohen character throwing the sorrow of the innocents back in their faces, but he is also making a fortune off of those who unwittingly download his software, not knowing that it is in fact a tool Internet Pirates use to download illegal software.
I was not aware that this logo existed, until yesterday when I found my Sri Lankan coworker Jenita Jeyarajah sobbing quietly to herself at her desk. Upon asking her what was wrong, she pointed to her world wide web browser which was pointed to the aforementionedBit Torrent website. The blatantly insensitive logo had reminded her of her mother and father who had sadly perished in the Tsunami.
For the sake of all those who were affected by this disaster, I call upon Bram Cohen to remove this insensitive logo from his website immediately. Hasn't the world has shed enough tears?
Sincerely,
