Lower Canadian PSN store prices

Dear Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc.,

The Canadian dollar has steadily been of roughly equal value to the US dollar for over 5 months and continues to be at this date. Many large store chains and car companies in Canada have already adjusted their prices to reflect this. Newly released video games for example are now being sold in Canada for the same prices as in the United States.

However, much to our dissatisfaction, the Canadian PSN store continues to charge higher prices for its paid content, which include video games and video game add-ons. The prices in the Canadian PSN store always cost at least $0.50 more than their US counterpart. In many cases however, it is $1.00 or more, even for small add-ons that cost $1.99 in the American PSN store. This means that Canadians purchasing the same add-on for $2.99 are paying 50% more. This is NOT acceptable. While the difference is small on an individual basis, it will continue to accumulate with every purchase.

Matching the prices with the US store may actually be beneficial not only for us, the consumers, but for SCEA as well. Money saved from each transaction will allow the purchase of even more content to further add to the quality of our favourite games.

We, customers of Sony and owners its PlayStation 3 console, respectfully demand that the all of the prices in the Canadian PSN store be adjusted to match those in the American PSN store for as long as the CAD and USD are at or near parity, effective immediately.

Le dollar Canadien a connu une hausse constante pour atteindre la parité avec le dollar Américain lors des 5 derniers mois, et réussit à s’y maintenir encore aujourd’hui. Plusieurs grandes chaînes de magasins et de concessionnaires, au Canada, ont ajusté leur prix en prenant cette situation en compte. Les jeux vidéos récents sont aussi maintenant vendus à des prix équivalents de ceux aux États-Unis.

Par contre, bien malheureusement, nous avons constaté que le magasin PSN Canadien continue à charger plus cher que chez nos voisins du sud, des différences de l’ordre de 0,50$ au moins, et parfois allant jusqu’à 1.00$ de plus pour de simples ajouts coûtant 1.99$ dans le magasin Américain. Cela signifie qu’un Canadien qui achète le même produit qu’un Américain paiera 2.99$, soit 50% de plus. Cette situation est inacceptable. Même si la différence semble mince sur une base individuelle, elle s’accumule rapidement après plusieurs achats.

Égaliser les prix avec ceux du magasin aux États-Unis ne serait pas avantageux seulement pour nous, les clients, mais aussi pour SCEA. L’argent économisé sur chaque transaction pourra permettre l’achat de plus de contenu pour ajouter à la qualité de nos jeux favoris.

Nous, clients de Sony et propriétaires de consoles PlayStation 3, demandons respectueusement que les prix dans le magasin PSN Canadien soient ajustés et deviennent égaux à ceux du magasin PSN Américain tant et aussi longtemps que le dollar Canadien et le dollar Américain seront à parité, ou presque, et que cela soit effectif dès maintenant.
