Google Word Verification Accessibility |
As of May 1, 2006, Google has added an audio playback alternative to the word verification system found in all their properties. The audio CAPTCHA is user friendly, consisting of easy to understand recorded voices with background noise. Google is also hiring two software engineers to focus specifically on accessibility. We thank Google for implementing these positive changes. The blind community looks forward to a better relationship with the company in the future. As a result of these developments, the Google Word Verification Accessibility Petition is now closed to new signatures. We thank those of you whom have signed on to this successful advocacy effort.
To: Google Inc.We, the undersigned, ask Google Inc. to "do no evil" and follow their mission statement to "organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful" by promptly adding accessibility to their visual word verification scheme so that the blind and visually impaired are allowed to fully participate in all products and services offered by the company on terms of equality with our sighted peers.
Sincerely,
