No CAS in Chennai Please |
To: I&B Ministry Of IndiaThis is to express the frustration among Chennaites over the introduction of Conditional Access System for cable viewing in Chennai. On September 1st CAS was forced on us and since then we are deprived of popular Television channels which the rest of the country is able to watch without a Set Top Box.
CAS was introduced with a promise to make the cable system more transparent and cheap. But it has achieved NONE of these goals. A set top box costs Rs. 4000. A monthly bill of 400+ Rs. is now required if one were to get all the channels that we got before this system was introduced. All this for watching cable channels only on one TV.
CAS IS NOT A SUCCESS IN CHENNAI, FREE CHANNELS ARE.
The minority Hindi, Enlgish speaking population of Chennai have been completely ignored. All major Tamil channels have helplessly gone free for the fear of losing advertising revenues. But the major channels from Star, Sony, HBO, and Discovery still remain paid and charge exorbitant rates.
We hereby request I&B Minister Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad to withdraw CAS from Chennai. India is not yet ready for it.
Sincerely,
