Lansdowne Complex

To:  Township Leeds and 1000 islands

The Municipal Council of Township Leeds and the Thousand Islands (hereafter called 'Lansdowne') is determined to build a six-million dollar Governmental Complex.

Six-million dollars is a lot of money for a community of 8,000 residents and 1,900 taxable properties. Lansdowne and area has already lost near a thousand manufacturing jobs because of the worldwide economic depression.

More disturbing still, is the apparent covert way in which this process has evolved. Information meetings have been few, and so calculated as to avoid a timely public scrutiny.

Emminent citizens are concerned about the legality of any Council action of this magnitude without demonstrating due diligence. Whether or not the new Complex is a good idea, the issue is clouded by the suspect manner in which a conclusion was reached.

We therefore ask that Council immediately halt the tendering process until a satisfactory, independent Report, can assure residents of the absolute necessity and long-term viability of this new Government Complex.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
