In 1970, Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band released the follow-up to their acclaimed "Trout Mask Replica", "Lick My Decals Off, Baby" on the late Frank Zappa's Straight Records label. It has been since regarded by both critics and listeners as superior to the perhaps more famous 1969 recording. Due to John Peel's championing of the album on BBC radio, "Lick My Decals Off, Baby" spent eleven weeks on the UK Albums Chart, peaking at number twenty as the highest-charting Captain Beefheart album in the UK ever. Like many releases on Zappa's Bizarre and Straight labels, "Lick My Decals Off, Baby" has been out of print since the early 1990s on CD. Enigma Retro released a CD edition in 1989 which is now very rare and goes for high prices among record collectors. As fans of the work, we would like to see a CD reissue of "Lick My Decals Off, Baby" be released into the market once more, so we can have the opportunity to add this excelent record to our own collection.
