Criterion Windowboxing

We, the undersigned, request that Criterion rethink their practice of windowboxing 1.33:1 transfers in order to ensure all future releases take advantage of the maximum resolution that DVD is capable of providing. The current policy compromises transfer quality by shrinking the image and is addressing a “problem” that is already being solved with the new generation of plasma and LCD monitors. The discs simply do not require windowboxing.
