Save The Historic Cemeteries Of East Point, Georgia.

To The City of East Point Georgia.

Attention Mayor, City Council Members, City Manager and all other interested persons and offices of said municipality.

Due to the recent explosion of development within the city of East Point, our historic smaller cemeteries are in danger. These cemeteries are: The Lee Family Farm Cemetery, The Hornsby Family Cemetery, Bethel Primitive Baptist Cemetery and the Connally Family Cemetery.

Nellie's Chapel and Mount Olive are also of concern but the above are in extreme danger.

We, the undersigned ask the governing council of the City of East Point Georgia to make it a requirement of developers who wish to build inside the city limits of East Point to do the following.

#1- To require developers to build a Buffer around any cemetery that is located inside of the development area.

#2- To require the developer to seek approval of the final plans showing what measures are to be taken to protect this cemetery before, during and after construction.

#3- To make it a requirement for developers to report immediately any formation, no matter how primitive in appearance that could be a possible burial ground.

#4- That the City of East Point OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZE AND DOCUMENT these cemeteries into the city record so that they are not forgotten.

It is also requested via this petition that the City of East Point pursue and fine any property owner that denies descendants of the family buried there entrance to the cemetery for care and or visitation.

The signers of this petition STRONGLY URGE city officials to Meet with the author of this document and to tour at least two of these cemeteries so that they may see the present dangers to these historic landmarks of East Point.
