To:  Joe Stackhouse

Dear Mr. Stackhouse,

As charter customers, it has come to our attention that the new “enhancement” to our web browsing experience is, although revenue generation for Charter, borderline spying on us, your customers.

Basic security guidelines state to not keep cookies or cache files on a computer, as it is insecure to do so, yet Charter is requiring a cookie to be downloaded and placed on a computer each time we wish to view the web in an opt out fashion.

Your letter states that it is important to Charter for the customers to be in complete control of their online experience. This method of opting out is hardly complete control. We, as customers, should be able to opt out once and only once.

Mr. Stackhouse, we are concerned that the packet level analysis and interpretation of this ad delivery network is an invasion of privacy. Although you state that our personal information will not be captured, what can easily be captured are the packet and the IP addresses of those users who do not know how to opt out or what is actually happening in the background of their web experience. We simply do not wish to have ads injected into our web experience.

Mr. Stackhouse, as your paying customers, we would rather have the ability to opt in to Charter’s new online experience. If this new ad network is really a great value to us as your customers, you will see increasing number of people participating in the service.

Give us better choices Mr. Stackhouse and we shall remain loyal paying customers.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
