Revision of City of Charleston Ordinance 5-7(c) |
To: City of Charleston Council MembersDuring the City of Charleston’s Council meetings on both December 9, 2008, and January 13, 2009, the City Council briefly spoke about changing Chapter 5, Section 7(c) of the City of Charleston Ordinances. The current ordinance limits any household within the City of Charleston to having no more than three (3) cats and three (3) dogs.
This issue has been deferred until a council member brings it back up.
The purpose of this petition is to certify your support of either repealing this ordinance, so that it is no longer in effect, or amending this ordinance to allow an exception to pet foster families, in order to allow rescues and shelters more options for foster homes. By eliminating or amending this ordinance, shelters and private rescues will be able to recruit more foster homes within city limits, and more dogs’ and cats’ lives can be saved.
This petition will be used to urge the City of Charleston Council to revisit the suggestion to repeal and/or revise this ordinance.Sincerely,
