ITV British Comedy Awards |
To: Michael Grade, ITV executive chairmanDear Mr Grade
We, the undersigned, urge ITV to screen this year’s comedy awards, live as usual.
The decision to ‘postpone’ the show indefinitely penalises the millions of fans who tune into the event, which has become one of the highlights of the broadcast calendar.
We understand ITV wants to investigate alleged irregularities of a previous phone vote, but this should be no bar to transmitting the 2007 ceremony without the problematic elements.
The decision to deprive viewers of seeing the British Comedy Awards live also seems inconsistent with ITV’s decision to continue broadcasting other programmes where more widespread and systematic phone vote problems have been uncovered.
What action is taken against any production teams responsible for such errors is obviously a matter for ITV, but by dropping an awards show which has attracted a loyal audience to your channel over the past 17 years seems to be wrongly targeting innocent viewers.
So we urge you to reconsider your position on this show that is enjoyed by so many people and has created so many moments of classic television.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
